Action trees

Action trees are listed in the Trees area of an instance's overview page.

Action trees overview

The list of action trees within an instance are listed in the order in which they run.

An action tree with a green arrow status is active and will be processed each time the instance is run. An action tree with a red square status is inactive.

If a tree in the list is shown with a blue star in front of the name, it has been marked as a subtree. A later section describes what these subtrees are and how they are used.

Information: Earlier versions of ELOxc referred to subtrees as templates. Templates now refer to a technically different function in the software.

The number in front of an instance name is the action tree's order ID. The ID defines the order in which the tree is executed when an instance runs.

Order ID

To import a sample action tree, an action tree must first be placed in the ELO repository under ¶ Administration ¶ ELOxc Base ¶ EXAMPLES. To import an example, click Add and select the tree in the Import Example field.

Action tree workspace

The middle area of the action tree area shows the workspace, which displays the sequence of actions within an action tree in the form of a graphical diagram. The top of the tree is always an ItemsTreeDef node.

All other tree nodes are located underneath the ItemsTreeDef node. Add a new node (action) to an action tree by moving the mouse over a node, then clicking the + symbol that appears to the right of it.

Action, newNode, new

To rename or delete an action tree node, place the mouse over that node. A pencil symbol and an X symbol appear to the right of the node. Click the pencil symbol to rename the node. Click the X to delete it.

Node, renameNode, delete

If you delete a node, you can either Delete action only or Delete action and subtree. Delete action only removes only that node from the action tree. Delete action and subtree removes that node and all dependent nodes from the action tree.

After clicking the node you want to add, the Add action dialog box opens as displayed above.

Type: Select the type of action you want to perform. The following sections in this manual describe each action.

Name: Enter the name of the node as it will be displayed in the tree. This name does not affect the way the node is processed. The action name should help you or other administrators to see at a glance what function the action performs in context.

Condition: Each action in an action tree will have a return value of True or False, depending on whether or not the action completed successfully. Usually, you will want to add actions to a condition of True, as a result of False is usually an error state. For some actions, however, such as Match & Replace actions, it can make sense to continue to process items along a False branch of the tree.

Once an action has been added to a tree, click the action to configure it.

Configure nodeNode, configureAction tree, configure

The node configuration provides a list of available options for that action type. Each node type requires different kinds and amounts of information in order to function. The Action node types section of this manual provides more information on configuring each specific node type.

The ELOxc Technical Reference describes all required and optional parameters and their required format.

Click All Options at the top of the node options to see all available options for the node type. Only the most important and necessary options are shown by default.

Click XML at the top of the node options to see the action node in pure XML format. You can enter parameters directly to the code in this way.

Click Save to save all changes to the node. You must activate the instance on the instance overview page to apply the changes to a running instance.
