Data sources: Catalogs and emulation

Selection is only possible if the data sources of an action tree (Exchange mailboxes) are listed in the instance catalog. The catalog of an instance determines the available data sources, and an instance can only support one type of catalog.

The following catalog interfaces are available:

InterfaceMeaningService userEmulation
LDAPLocal directoriesRequiredYes
RemotePowerShellMicrosoft Office 365Required
EWSExchange Server directRequiredNo
StaticManual catalogCase-dependentNo

Emulation means that data sources that constitute a collection of data sources can be used to emulate processing of the individual data sources in the respective collection as if ELOxc were accessing the data source directly. This mainly affects journal mailboxes and mailbox shares, since the elements of these data sources always refer to other data sources (i.e. mailboxes).

Emulation not only affects the data sources being processed, but also affects the required number of licenses by directly mapping processed data sources. You can also process collective data sources natively as stand-alone data sources, but the maximum possible number of data sources that these contain is always used for the license count.
