Search work area

General

In the Search work area, you can search for files and documents in ELO. There are a range of filters to help you narrow down the search results.

When you open the Search work area, an additional Search tab appears on the ribbon. The Search tab contains different functions, such as for searching the metadata, creating search filters, and adding search favorites.

Work area, SearchSearch

iSearch

iSearch is the default search tool in the ELO Java Client. This search uses special search algorithms that make searching easier and more convenient.

iSearch

iSearch offers the following functions:

  • Autocomplete
  • Autocorrect
  • Link search terms
  • Search independent of the word form
  • Filter matches by metadata
  • Highlight matches
  • Search for alternative terms

Search filters

You can use different search filters to restrict your search in a specific way. You will find the search filters under Ribbon > Search. All currently activated search filters are displayed below the search field. There are several filters selected by default.

Search, filters

Select the filter settings you require from the drop-down menu. You can see at a glance how many hits there are for each filter setting. For example, the Date search filter enables you to see how many documents exist in ELO that date between 2010 and 2014.

You can combine the search filters as required. To remove the search filter, simply click the corresponding button on the ribbon again.

Metadata search

In addition to ELO iSearch, you can use the metadata search. The metadata search is restricted to the search in the fields of metadata forms. You will find the Metadata search function under Ribbon > Search > Search logic > Metadata search.

Metadata search

The Search form is used by default. You can either search using the short name or all fields. There are additional filters for the metadata search on the Options tab.

Favorites

You can also save a search as a favorite. This saves time when you perform the same search regularly. You will find the Save search function under Ribbon > Search > Search favorites. Use the Save search function to add the current search as a favorite. Use the Search favorites function to search for a favorite.

Favorites

If you want to trigger the search as soon as you click a favorite, you can enable the Start search immediately when clicking a search favorite option. You will find this option in the Configuration dialog box under Ribbon > User menu [your name] > Configuration > Technical presets > Display and refresh).

You can also add a favorite to the ribbon. Right-click the favorite and select Show on ribbon. To remove a favorite from the ribbon, open the Manage search favorites dialog box and click the check box On ribbon.
