Static mailbox registration
This chapter introduces the option to enter addresses to static catalogs of external mailbox owners. This extension is necessary for IMAP servers that do not offer "impersonation". ELOxc has a separate page where a mailbox owner can register a mailbox so it is applied to the ELOxc configuration. The mailbox registrations are not linked to a specific instance. It is up to the administrator to assign them correctly.

The registration of static mailboxes is not limited to IMAP but can also be used for Exchange mailboxes.
Example
The starting point for mailbox registration is the instance configuration. Under Connection settings, you will find the fragment Static authentication.
The IMAP server was entered by the administrator. A list of mailboxes cannot be created yet since the mailbox registrations are not available. To activate the registration page, you must check the Mailbox registrations box in the settings (Tools button).
Information: We recommend that you only allow the mailbox registrations during specifically scheduled, known time frames. Although it does not pose a particular risk to permanently enable mailbox registrations, it may suggest to mailbox owners that data is transferred automatically. Ultimately, this function should only be used after having consulted the administrator and the mailbox owners.
If the option is enabled, you can call the page https://<ELOxc host name>:<port>/statreg
.
The following is an example of mailbox registration:
After clicking Register, the mailbox is registered and the fields are deleted again. You will not necessarily see an error message, and the entries are not checked. The data entered here is stored in a file named ELOxcBoxReg in the installation directory and is only retained for the administrator. In this file, you can see that the password is transferred securely.
The administrator can transfer the collected mailbox registrations to the instance at any time in the ELOxc configuration.
Click the button with the plus icon in the instance configuration.
To apply or delete a mailbox registration, it must be selected first. If you click the Delete button, the administrator will reject the registration. If you click Apply, it will show up in the instance configuration.
When a registration is applied, the data is updated based on the identified SMTP address. Addresses that have already been configured may be overwritten with new credentials. As the administrator in principle grants authorization to use the address, this can be done at an appropriate time.
